iheed and IOMSC Announce 2025 Occupational Medicine Scholarships

The International Occupational Medicine Society Collaborative (IOMSC), in partnership with iheed, is delighted to announce the award of the 2025 Occupational Medicine Scholarships. These prestigious awards provide doctors from low- and middle-income countries with the opportunity to pursue the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI) Online Professional Diploma in Occupational Medicine

The programme, delivered over 9 months through flexible online learning, equips doctors with the specialist skills and knowledge to advance workplace health and safety in their home countries. From August 2025, the programme also includes an additional module designed to help prepare candidates for the Licentiate of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine (LFOM) examination, further strengthening its value for professionals pursuing specialist accreditation.

This year, three outstanding doctors have been awarded scholarships:

  • Dr Jeremiah Madeni (Tanzania)
“This scholarship represents a pivotal step in advancing my expertise in occupational health. The programme’s rigorous curriculum and global perspective will empower me to drive meaningful workplace well-being initiatives and contribute to safer, healthier work environments across industries. I am honoured to join this transformative learning journey.”

  • Dr Scarlet Mubokyi (Uganda)
“Receiving the iheed Diploma in Occupational Medicine scholarship is a transformative opportunity for the country, for the Department of Occupational Health and Safety (DOSH) and me. For the 10,000,000 workers in the country, I am the only practicing Occupational Physician in the DOSH without any specialised training in Occupational medicine. It will equip me with the essential knowledge and skills to strengthen occupational health services in Uganda, where the need is urgent and resources are limited. I’m deeply grateful to iheed, IOMSC, and the donors for supporting this vital professional development.”

  • Dr Richard Addy (Ghana)
“I am truly honoured to receive this scholarship to pursue the Professional Diploma in Occupational Medicine. This programme will deepen my expertise in workplace health and safety, enabling me to make a greater impact in preventing occupational illnesses and promoting the well-being of workers. I believe the knowledge and skills I gain will not only enhance my professional practice but also contribute meaningfully to improving occupational health standards in my community and beyond.”

This cohort will begin their studies at the end of August, embarking on a nine-month journey that promises to shape the future of occupational health in their countries and beyond.

The scholarships were made possible by iheed, Dr Will Ponsonby, and Dr Peter Connaughton.

  • IOMSC and iheed are encouraging further support for the continuation of this important initiative. Individuals or organisations interested in sponsoring a scholarship in 2026 are warmly invited to contact the Society of Occupational Medicine (SOM).
